I am taking this semester off college, but with the job search being what it is, I haven't had much luck. I found a job after a month of searching, but I lost it after only a week. I had a job for a month that gave me 12 hours my first week, then 7, then 5, and eventually zero (without even saying I was fired). I have finally found two jobs- one at a McDonald's and one at a movie theater. I haven't had much time at either place yet, but I will be working a total of 40 hours a week. Tips for working two jobs? Here:
- Tell all your bosses at each job about your other job. This will let them know that scheduling might be kind of tricky and you could often be exhausted, but you will work it out. Many employers are willing to work with you on a schedule.
- Keep your uniforms together. If neither of my bosses say otherwise, I will wash my uniforms (which are both dark colors) at the same time and I put them in the same area of my closet. That way, if I'm working both jobs one day, I'll be able to grab both of my uniforms and change quickly.
- Try to make at least one of them at a place open 24 hours. Scheduling can conflict, but if you can make one of the places a place that it always open, then your bosses will both be able to find times that work for you and both places you work. For instance, my job at McDonald's schedules me 5-9 and for now, the movies from 11-4, but the movies has asked me to try to change my schedule so I can work at their busier times- evenings. McDonald's has multiple busy times, but I may be able to work, say, 4-9 at the Movies and 10-3am at McDonald's, I am a night owl already so this will work for me, but you need to have at least one place be flexible.
- Use Google Calendar to check your schedule. Google Calendar is a useful tool where you can select a date and put in events that are happening during the week. You can put your schedules on the calendar and print it off so you can see if you are working at either job one day and if you need to have both uniforms in your car one day.
- Get a day off each week! I worked seven days a week between the two jobs for 5 weeks and really burned out! Since I had only had one other jobs and my schedule constantly changed there, I thought that would be the case wherever I got a job and eventually I'd have a day off. That did eventually happen, but only because the person who did my job at one of my jobs on my day off was in the hospital. (Don't worry, they got out and back to work!) Still, save yourself!
Hope this helps!
